Pursuit of Your Route

Jun 14, 2020

Colm Smith is the head strength and conditioning coach and sport scientist with The West Ham women’s first team.

In this episode, Colm talks about his time at secondary school where he had a passion for sport but struggled academically.

We chat about the route Colm took to get into the area of strength and conditioning and why he decided to move to London after completing his undergrad in Health and Physical Activity at Dundalk IT.

Colm shares his experience of balancing a four years masters degree in strength and conditioning while working part time with a range of sports clubs such as London Gaa, Harlequins Rugby Club and Chelsea Football Club.

Finally, Colm offers super advice to Leaving Cert students who want to get into the area of strength and conditioning. He also offers really helpful advice to students who don’t know what they’d like to do after sixth year.

A big thanks to Colm for being so open and honest throughout our chat, particularly in relation to his struggles with academics at school and the importance of finding courses at both undergrad and masters level that suited him and his style of learning.
